Background
Salberg Concrete Products (Pty) Ltd started out as a wholly owned family business established in 1972 by Rick and Dave Salberg for the purpose of specializing in the manufacture of precast concrete manholes. This niche market was chosen because it was being neglected by the pipe industry as a nuisance and hence the precast manhole was very seldom used by Contractors.
Salberg changed all that by drawing up a specification for standardized components, still used today. The company also recognized the unique production needs of Africa. Instead of using expensive and complex equipment from Europe, Salberg designed an easy to transport and erect manufacturing plant as well as specialized lifting equipment, able cope with the robust Africa conditions.
Today Salberg offers a full range of sewer & storm water including portal culverts management products with all key product lines carrying the SABS mark of approval.
The original manhole chamber spun by Dave Salberg and his team on 10 October 1972 is still kept in the product display area today.
Salberg strives to be the precast concrete product supplier of choice. For 46 years the company has offered value in terms of service excellence, innovation and product quality and has been committed to delivering personalised service geared to meet client’s specific requirements and needs.
Merger
In 2014, Salberg Concrete Products merged with Ubuntu Pre-cast, specialists in the manufacturing of box culverts. Box culverts were seen as complimenting the company’s existing suite of products and a necessary addition to comprehensively service client’s product needs.
New Appointments
In January 2018, Salberg appointed Ernest van Burick, as National Factory Manager to take over the executive reins from outgoing CEO, Russel Samuels.
Van Burick, a well-respected heavy weight in the concrete and construction materials industry, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the company. His appointment will allow Salberg Concrete Products to continue and improve the history of innovation and strategic partnerships with all stakeholders in the pre-cast concrete products manufacturing industry.
“I’m excited by this appointment”, said van Burick, at a recent company gathering, “as the pre-cast industry and government are poised to improve and expand the country’s infrastructure to sustain the anticipated economic growth”. van Burick has also strengthened the company’s special product design division which caters for the development of bespoke products for both local and international markets.
